Spotted, on the way up to Heathrow

Some contributions to Clive's SCB (stupid corporate branding) series:

Burnt Tree Vehicle Solutions (it's a car hire firm -- why would they use "vehicle solutions"?)
Caring for Tomorrow! (a parcel delivery firm -- don't they know that tomorrow never comes, or is that code for saying that they don't deliver on time?)

But, we did see a great tagline on a biscuit company lorry -- Bite Me! There is hope.

It makes me laugh when people post comments on these blog sites without having a clue what they are talking about.

Burnt Tree Vehicle Solutions are not a "Car Hire Company" they specialise in the supply of commercial vehicles from rental, contract hire and outright purchase along with vehicle tracking systems, fleet management solutions the only bit you got right was the fact they do also supply cars. so I guess you could say they are a true vehicle solution supplier. More details of the products and services can be found on www.burnttree.co.uk

Hello Websurf,

Thank you for your contribution. My beef was with the use of "solutions" (not vehicles) -- it's part of annoying modern marketing-speak, along with the use of "impact the business" and "to grow the business", that irritates me intensely. If you're doing car, sorry VEHICLE hire, just say so. Using "solutions" in a tagline isn't going to get me to look at the Web site; in fact, it acts as a deterrent!

Private Eye also targets the overuse of "solutions" in each issue; if you work in marketing, it's worth taking a look to appreciate how much it grates. And if you work in marketing for Burnt Tree, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings!

And to address your other point that the company doesn't just offer vehicle hire: saying that it offers vehicle hire and systems would be much clearer and more useful than using the generic "solutions". Vehicle systems suggests something beyond hire to do with the internal workings of a vehicle. Solutions means nothing (to me, at least) in this context.

But, YMMV.
