Somewhat less impressive by day against a cold, grey sky. Still, it's Portsmouth's most distinctive feature.

The George, Alstonefield -- such good food! Well worth the scary drive through the Peak District in very thick fog to get there for lunch. PJ had salmon, I had a vegetable casserole with the best sticky red cabbage, and then we shared (i.e., I let PJ have a spoonful of) a treacle tart with clotted cream. Mmm!

The Potteries Museum, Stoke-on-Trent: well worth a visit. Good exhibition on The Staffordshire Hoard as well as lots of beautiful pots and some of the ugliest ceramics ever seen.
